-Thou shall not delay?-

I was sitting in the staff lounge today when my colleague sat down and we started chatting. Somehow we drifted to the topic of marriage as she started asking me abt one of my friends, P who had been a trainee teacher in my school.

Scene 1
Colleague: so how is P?
Me: Yah he is doing fine in his new school. They have a structured program for the PE department there.
Colleague: how old are you? What about P? Why don't you consider P?
Me: *aghast* NO la he talks too much crap..joker la.
Colleague: Now he jokes a lot because he treats you as a friend. Next time will be
different.
Me: You kan cheong for P?
Colleague: No for you.
Me: (silence for a few moments) No la P really not my type.

Scene 2
Colleague 2: So when you getting married?
Me: (pause) I not even attached...married to air ah?
Colleague 2: hm can consider the single teachers in school.
Me: (shocked look on face) NO!
Colleague: Example, Mr C or Mr P.
Me: Not my type! (Violent objection)

I have no idea why it is that when you are of a certain age people will start assuming you will be getting married SOON. Yes I am not averse to the idea of being attached and married but hey..to be asked twice in a day?! One of my colleagues who is a close friend said maybe it is a sign.

On pondering, my reflections:
1) P is nice as a friend but we are polar opposites. He is a sports person while I
I try to avoid the sun as much as possible. Anyway we have made things clear we
are just friends. That is why he gets to eat all my baked stuff without the fear
of any misunderstandings.

2) Mr C and Mr P are just not my cup of tea. I abhor the idea of marrying a teacher.
Gosh what more in the same school Besides *ahem* I like well dressed guys who
are sharp dressers.

Society's perception seems to be that marriage is a necessary stage of life. Honestly sometimes I just wish all these helpful people weren't so helpful. Colleague 2 says he is going to try to introduce people to me..goodness...
